Rabaul students to get TTF subsidy

Up to 300 students from the Rabaul district will benefit from the Tertiary Tuition Fee Subsidy this 2016.

Application of the four LLG’s: Rabaul Urban 58 applications, Kombui with 60 applications, Balanatanam with 128 applications as well as Watom with applications have been screened and the subsidy has been approved.

K700,000 will be cleared and paid out in cheques to the universities and colleges both government and private in the province as well as around the country in the upcoming week.

With 70 registered applications, Kokopo Business College was recorded to have the highest number of students applying for the RDTTFS for this year.

K1 million has been approved by The Rabaul District Development Authority Board which is an increase from last year’s allocation of K800, 000 for tuition subsidies and release of the tuition subsidies are given as per each students GPA (Gross Point Average)

Evaluations from 2015 saw that applicants’ results have improved thus resulting in their applications being approved this year 2016.

A strategy was used to try to educate the LLG’s member to make sure that the subsidy coming from the government was given to motivated and reliable people of the community who showed initiative and competency in both work and play, therefore copies of their certified attainments were required for them to apply for tuition subsidies as well as character references from their respective ward members and church leaders.

Members of the LLG as well as leaders of the church were urged to confirm if applicants and their parents were active members of the community and community based groups like the church youth groups and or mama’s group.
