PX boss Foo heads airlines grouping

Air Niugini chief executive officer Simon Foo has been appointed new chairman of the Association of South Pacific Airlines (ASPA) following a unanimous decision reached at the 33rd annual general meeting(AGM) held in Kokopo, East New Britain last week.

Mr Foo took over from Air Calin’s CEO, Didier Taperro from New Caledonia who had held that position for six years.

Foo is not new to ASPA as he has been involved in the initial discussions representing Air Niugini with other Pacific Island airline executives leading towards the formation of ASPA in Suva, Fiji in 1979. ASPA is comprised of chief executive officers, managing directors and senior representatives from all airlines in the South Pacific.

Mr Foo said: “ I am honored to be elected to lead ASPA for the next 12 months as chairman. I will try my best to continue the excellent work performed by my predecessors over the 30 years or so.”

Foo said he is also pleased to note the significant progress ASPA has made over the years, most importantly that the association is fulfilling many objectives that were mandated under its charter.

The primary role of ASPA is to serve as a common forum for the articulation of members’ views on matters and issues of common interest. It is also to foster close co-operation and to bring an atmosphere conducive to the stimulation of the travel and tourism industry.
