Province allocates K7m for agriculture

The Oro Provincial Government has allocated K7 million to the agriculture sector in Northern Province.

Northern Governor Gary Juffa said this during the Trukai Industries Field Day in Morobe Province on Friday.

Juffa said after all the minerals are gone, agriculture will remain therefore he wanted to strengthen the work of agriculture in his province.

He said of that K7m, K1m is for the production of rice alone. The balance is for other cash crops as well as traditional crops.

"Oro Provincial Government has allocated K7m to agriculture sector and the farmers will benefit from it. Ventures like inland fishing will also be looked at with that money.

“Agriculture will always remain the backbone of this country. And that is something which we must be proud of," Juffa said.

Traditional crops will also be considered in the break-up of funds. This is to complement the cash crops.

Juffa said what they witnessed at Erap Trukai Industries Centre was the culmination of hard work between the farmers and Trukai, which was indeed a great milestone achievement.
