Prime suspects in nursing school rape arrested

Three suspects were arrested in a raid at Banana camp settlement in Lae on Sunday, in relation to the rape and robbery of two female students at the Angau School of Nursing.

Police conducted a raid and also found personal items including a mobile phone and a laptop belonging to the females on the key suspect.

Police also found in his pocket, a spare key to room 6 of the girls’ dormitory.

Lae Metropolitan Commander, Anthony Wagambie Jnr commended his detectives for their swift action three days after the incident.

“Four suspects were apprehended at the settlement. After screening, it was concluded that three of them were part of the gang of five,” Wagambie said.

One suspect is known to police for previous crimes including break and enter and stealing in and around top town area shops and residences.

Wagambie said the prime suspect (repeat offender) had with him clothes that matched the description given by the victims. It was a woollen green camouflage pull over and a pair of cut jeans.

The three have been positively identified by one of the victims. Two others remain at large.

All three suspects are from different districts in Enga Province.
