Port Moresby in citywide blackout

Port Moresby residents are spending their first night of 2016 in the dark. This is after what the PNG Power call centre describes as a total system shutdown.

Suburbs throughout the nation's capital started experiencing power outages since 6pm tonight.

PNG Loop was advised that the two main feeders coming out of the main power stations at Rouna were having problems.

This has forcedĀ  PPL to carry out a systems shutdown so that they can carry out repair work on the damaged feeders.

The call centre staff say that technicians are working on restoring power and should have electricity restored to the city as soon as they can. The PNG Power call centre number is 70908000. Residents are encouraged to call in should they have any electricity faults or concerns.
