POMNA downs Central in U15 netball championships

POMNA outlasted Central Province 19-15 to be crowned the under 15 national netball queens in the junior netball championships at the Rita Flynn complex in Port Moresby.

From the opening whistle, Central appeared to be more organised across the court, controlling the play for much of the opening minute with quick passes and steady foot work.

That was not enough when the POMNA girls snatched back after settling into the game and cutting of the passes with intercepts as POMNA goal shooter steadied herself under the Central goal line to notch a quick succession of goals.

At the break POMNA led Central 12-8.

As the match continued it was anyone’s for the taking going goal for goal  as the second half headed up.

After the break electricity filled the air as supporters cheer at the top of their voice for the moment of truth was soon to be revealed.

The second half opened up much like the first, with both teams exchanging early goals, however, an increased intensity in defense from the POMNA saw the Central girls coursing some crucial errors as POMNA goalers began to find space under the post and occupy the Central defensive unit.

Central tried to make a late comeback in the dying minutes but fell short by 4 goals as POMNA claimed victory beating Central 19-15.

Meanwhile, on court 2 the Under 13 Kairuku/Hiri girls were too good beating POMNA in a nailbiting victory 16-18.
