Polye asks Government to deliver on promise

The National Government says it will begin work on the four lane highway from Mt Hagen to Togoba as of January 2017.

This was stated by Works Minister, Francis Awesa, in response to questions by Opposition Leader, Don Polye, that the Government failed to deliver the project after so much fanfare.

Polye said a huge billboard was erected in Mt Hagen with the photo of Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, and several cabinet members announcing that the four-lane road would be built.

Polye said that was over 12 months ago and likened the current state of the road to that of a war zone.

“Pot holes ino liklik potholes. Olsem bomb blo Siapan i kam daun olgeta long Mt Hagen, na erupt. volcano crater i stap lo olgeta hap blo city na along the highway,” said Polye.

(“They are not small potholes. Its as if a bomb from Japan came down on Mt Hagen and erupted. Its like volcano craters are everywhere and along the highway.”)

He was interrupted by Minister for Finance, James Marape, who told Parliament that Polye was the longest serving Works Minister and failed to do anything.

Polye rebutted the statement saying the plans and programs the current government is implementing were his and that the current government had no money and were running the country down.

He asked them bluntly “tok olsem yupla fail?” (“Admit that you have failed.”)

Works Minister Francis Awesa, wasted no time in continuing where Marape left off and accused Polye of doing nothing as the longest serving Works Minister.

Polye quickly interjected telling him not to talk about him but the commitment to build the road which they failed and were now beating around the bush.

Awesa then got on point saying that funds for the four lane highway were ready and that work on the road will be launched on January 19th which he invited Polye to witness.

“I will invite you to come and witness the launching, (and) I want you to make a speech as well,” said Awesa sarcastically.
