Politial Party brands a values

Political parties in PNG were given an insight into the values that define party brands in Australian politics.

The insight was provided by one of the Australian Liberal Party’s Federal Tactics Unit Manager, Ian Hanke, who is here on the invitation of the Registry of Political Party’s and Candidates Commission ((RPCC).

Hanke told PNG political party executives today in a workshop organized by the commission that party branding was based on values that define who or what the party is.

“We consider a brand to be about the values that is invested in the name of the Liberal Party,” Hanke said.

“It is what your electors, your party members, the public thinks of the liberal party.”

Hanke has worked in 11 Federal Elections since 1987 and says it takes a long time to build a strong brand through proper behaviour of members and politicians, the political messages which reflect the values, and the policies and people.

However, it can be easily destroyed.

“Your brand can be very badly tarnished by scandal, criminality, perceived criminality.”

“It’s got to be protected at all costs,” said Hanky.

Party executives engaged in-group discussions surrounding the topic of branding and shared their ideas.

There was also an update by Electoral Commissioner, Patilus Gamato, on their preparations.

The learning and development workshop is part of the efforts by the RPPCC is strengthening and preparing political parties for the 2017 General Elections.

The last day of the workshop will be held tomorrow and will focus on campaign strategies
