Police report K20, 000 robbery in Vanimo

Two suspects alleged to be involved in the theft of K20, 000 in West Sepik Province are now in the custody of local police, says Provincial Police Commander Robert Gesa.

Gesa told Loop PNG that the robbery happened last Sunday between 11 -12 pm, where six armed men robbed Low-lie shop outside Vanimo Town.

“About six suspects armed with pistols held the Chinese couple who are the shop owners, and stole over K20,000 cash and took off.”

PPC Gesa said an hour after the incident the stolen vehicle, a taxi which was used for the robbery was recovered parked on the side of the road, after Waramo Village.

He said the taxi was stolen from the driver, who was tied up and thrown into the bush opposite Don Bosco Secondary.

“In the process a security was stabbed with the knife on his shoulder when the security guard tried to intervene, also an innocent Indonesian citizen who worked with Eagle Word Company here in Vanimo who was doing shopping when the hold-up happened had a scuffle and was shot at the back,” PPC Gesa said.

He is confident all the suspects will be rounded up soon.
