Police not cooperating in HB investigations

Some police units are not cooperating with investigators to determine those responsible for the shooting death of Nicholas Rarua and Toka Gaudi of Hanuabada village more than a year ago.

Numerous letters have been written to Port Moresby based police to come forward with firearms and statements to no avail.

That’s from Acting Crimes Director, Moses Ibsagi, who now has to deal with frustrated relatives from Hanuabada who have threatened to protest what appears to be a lack of willingness on the part of police to arrest the shooters.

His investigation team had requested officers to provide details on the type of weapons they have been carrying whilst on duty.

Ipsagi told LOOP PNG today, the only unit that has cooperated is the Mobile Squad from McGregor Barracks.

Investigators were handed 19 firearms for ballistic tests. None matched the projectile that was found in the body of the deceased Nicolas Rarua and the wounded victim, Nou Karoho.

10 of those firearms were from McGregor Barracks.

But investigators believe the weapon in question is still around.

Ipsagi said he will apply more pressure on the NCD/Central command to ensure all relevant units hand in their statements and weapons for inspection.
