Police chief condemns army behaviour

Police Commissioner Gari Baki has condemned the actions of the military personnel that were involved in a police attack last Friday (November 27th).

Commissioner Baki says that this is the kind of behaviour not expected of a disciplined force,  adding that he has had a meeting with his PNGDF counterpart, Commander Gilbert Toropo.

Baki says that in the meeting he expressed his concern at the lack of respect for the rule of law shown by the soldiers who mobilised in truck loads and damaged three police vehicles.

Reports stated that between 6am and 8am soldiers from the Taurama military barracks mobilised and damaged two police vehicles at the Manu Auto Port service  station and forcefully removed a CID vehicle at the Taurama roundabout and drove it into Taurama barracks where it was also damaged.

Baki says that the fact remains that this type of behaviour is essentially uncalled for and unbecoming of personnel of a disciplined force.
