Police arrest Igam Barracks murder suspect

A suspect, in relation to the murder of a 20-year-old woman at the PNGDF Igam Barracks, Lae, has been formally charged and arrested.

The body of the woman was discovered inside the Igam Army Barracks over a fortnight ago.

In a statement, the police said the suspect is the son of a serving PNGDF soldier. He was taken into custody by police detectives after their investigations.

The suspect was the deceased’s boyfriend.

“With the help and assistance of eye witnesses, police carried out a thorough investigation and managed to identify and have the suspect arrested,” the police said in a statement.

He is currently in custody and will later be moved to Buimo prison after he appears for his mention in court.

Circumstantial evidence points in the direction of the deceased’s boyfriend, reads the statement.

However, police officers will not be ruling out other possibilities of other accomplices, who might be involved in this. But that will depend on eye witnesses.

Lae Police Boss Anthony Wagambie Jnr thanks the family of the deceased for their patience during the investigations and not taking the law into their own hands.

He also extends his appreciation to the community for assisting the police investigators by bringing forward eye witnesses.
