PNGCF to mark Daffodil Month with charity event

The Papua New Guinea Cancer Foundation will mark Daffodil Month in August with charity event, the Daffodil Cup Golf challenge.

Daffodil Month is aimed at providing hope for a healthier nation by encouraging Papua New Guineans to challenge themselves to reduce their risk of cancer by making healthy lifestyle choices.

The PNG Institute of Medical Research estimates that 1 in 10 deaths in PNG are cancer-related.

PNG Cancer Foundation chief executive officer Dadi Toka Jr encourages everyone to get involved by making healthy lifestyle choices to live better lives.

“Join us in the Daffodil Month and eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly and protect your family. Don’t smoke, don’t chew betelnut and reduce your alcohol intake,” he said.

Over 30 teams are expected to take part with early bird registration fee of K3, 000. Those that register as of August 1 will pay a fee of K3, 500.

Toka Jr encouraged all business houses and individual groups to get behind this charity drive.

The event raised about K103, 000 last year and this year they aim to achieve over K100, 000.

All funds raised will benefit the PNG Cancer Foundation provincial free cancer screening programs.

The Daffodil Cup has been taking place since 2003, aimed to help raise awareness on cancer.
