PNG Swimming to run FINA Swim Clinic

Papua New Guinea Swimming Inc. (PNGSI) will be running a five day FINA swim coaching clinic in Port Moresby this month.

The course will be held at the Taurama Aquatic Centre (TAC) from September 20th to 24th.

PNGSI president Liz Wells said the course will teach the 35 participants attending on how to deliver basic swimming squad sessions that develop the technique of novice swimmers.

She said this will see classroom theory sessions in the morning (freestyle and backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly teaching progressions drills; Simple biomechanics; Training programs skill based; Energy systems; Training sets for competition; Training sets; periodisation, Nutrition, Recovery, Sleep; Race analysis) with the practical pool sessions held in the afternoon.

“The clinic will be run by John Bladon who is currently the Head of Aquatics at the Knox Grammar School, Sydney Australia.

“John is a silver licence coach with a degree in sport science from the University of NSW. He has been a member and head coach of the NSW and Australian age and youth teams over the last 15 years, and is currently the state team’s head coach.

“PNGSI welcomes John to Port Moresby to pass on to participants his valuable wealth of knowledge in the teacher of swimming stream,” said Wells.
