PNG Swim coaches to attend clinic

Papua New Guinea Swimming Inc. will be running a BSP FINA Swim Coaches’ Clinic in Port Moresby next month.

The five-day clinic to be run September 27 to October 1, will be held at the Taurama Aquatic Centre.

President of PNG Swimming, Liz Wells said the clinic will be divided into two categories; a ‘teacher of swimming coaching clinic’ (two days) and ‘Active Coach Clinic’ (three days).

She said the course structure will consist of how to deliver basic swimming sessions that develop the swimming technique of junior swimmers and a more advanced coach program for pool deck squad coaches.

She added the course outline will include classroom theory sessions in the morning (Freestyle and Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly teaching progressions drills; Simple biomechanics; Training programs skill based; Energy systems; Training sets for competition; Training sets; periodization, Nutrition, Recovery, Sleep; Race analysis) with the practical pool sessions held in the afternoon.

“The expert, invited by FINA to conduct the clinic, is John Bladon, an Australian Swimming Coaching & Teachers Association (ASCTA) Silver Licence coach with a degree in sport science from the University of New South Wales.

“John, who previously conducted a coach’s clinic in 2015, returns to Port Moresby under the support of the FINA Development Program. He is very keen to meet up with those who attended the previous clinic,” said Wells.
