PNG qualifies for semifinals at OFC U17 titles

Two goals from striker Belinda Giada helped Papua New Guinea secure a spot in the semi-final of the 2016 OFC U-17 Women's Championship at Rarotonga, Cook Islands.

PNG finished in a draw 2-2 today against Fiji who are also through to the semi-finals for group B.

Giada’s goals added two more points to her tally on the Golden Boot rankings.

The Morobean opened the score board goaling from behind and finishing neatly in the corner 30 minutes into the match.

Fiji struggled in the first half but failed to score which left the score 1-0 at half time.

A silly mistake from PNG three minutes into the second half saw Fiji level the score 1-1 when PNG put one into their own net after a cross came through.

PNG bounced back to extend its lead 66 minutes into the game 2-1 when Giada scored her second goal as she chipped past Fiji’s Francine Lockington and found the net.

Fiji made a comeback in the 84th minute, scoring through Ceme Nasau to level the score 2-2 at full time.

New Zealand and New Caledonia have made it through to the semi-final in Group A.
