PNG Pepes named for Tri-Series

An 11 member team has been named for Papua New Guinea Pepes that will participate in this weekend’s international invitational Tri-Series in Port Moresby.

The three-day tournament is scheduled from March 5-7  at the Sir John Guise Indoor Stadium.

The Singapore National Team and 2015 Victoria State Championship team the Victorian Fury have been invited to take part. 

Pepes boasts youth and experience and consists of majority of regulars that have been participating in recent international events including the 2015 Pacific Games and Nations Cup.

The team has on board youngster Serina Ovia who will be making her debut for the Pepes. She plays a defender and is part of the U21 training squad.

Coach Unaisi Rokoura revealed that they’ve recently had withdrawals due to personal reasons so it is important that new players are scouted.

“Serina had her first run on Saturday and she produced what we wanted her to produce ad she blended in well with the team. She’s a player to look forward to in the future,” said Rokoura.

Pepes invitational squad: Lua Rikis (Captain), Winnie Marava, Herronie Daera, Tiata Baldwin, Neritha Adula, Jacklyn Lahari, Shanna Dringo, Tau Galewa, Japerth Tulapi, Kilala Sunema Owen and Serina Ovia.

Rokoura said training has been going really well and the girls have given hundred percent in training and wouldn’t want to miss this opportunity

“We want to go into every competition knowing that we are prepared and we believe the girls are prepared and ready to take on Singapore and Victoria Fury.
