PNG HP invited for national physio symposium

Papua New Guinea High Performance (HP) director Aaron Alsop and Sports Medicine manager Simon Morris have been invited to speak at the 3rd Annual PNG Physiotherapy Association (PNGPA) Symposium in Madang next month.

Alsop said HP wanted to support the recognised body for Physiotherapy in PNG by sharing successes they have had with the upskilling and mentoring of local physios. They aim to achieve this by providing opportunities for them with sports and to further their career into the field of sports physiotherapy.

“Importantly, we also provide an opportunity to expand their understanding and experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team. Our staff work across many fields and expertise that support athletes and coaches.

“Sharing these stories with the physiotherapy community shows the possibilities of where a career in PNG can take someone,” said Alsop.

Alsop said their recent partnership with Dr Michael Wilson, Cassandra Akiro and the Port Moresby General Hospital, through the Physiotherapy Department, is an example of how HP is working with other departments and organisations to grow local capacity.

“Existing partners of HP such as Sports Medicine Australia and Victor Sports are ways HP can also add more value to the industry with education and equipment to provide top quality services to the professionals,” said Alsop.

Acting secretary of the PNGPA, Mercia Girey, stated that it was an honour to invite Alsop and Morris to participate as presenters.

“We believe that your contribution to this field is unparalleled and your inspiration talk will benefit us a lot,” said Girey.

The symposium program runs from August 22nd to the 24th. It will be held at the Star International Hotel.
