PNG highlights importance of REDD projects

PNG, through its Climate Change & Development Authority, presented the country's Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) during the 2nd Asia Pacific Rainforest Summit in Brunei Darussalam.

PNG was represented by Alfred Rungol, the Climate Change & Development Authority (CCDA) manager for MRV.

Rungol spoke on Wednesday at the Brunei International Convention Center during the parallel session on "Keeping Track of Forest: System of MRV”.

The talk was centred on the importance of the system and how the country will benefit in terms of implementation of REDD+ projects in PNG.

Rungol presented on the roles of CCDA and PNG Forest Authority and how the system is developing in PNG with the support of international partners.

The forum was moderated by Australian Department of Environment and featured participants and speakers from Indonesia, Fiji, as well as a representative from the Global Forest Observation Initiative.
