PNG is ‘games ready’ to host FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup

PNG is ‘games ready’ to host the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup challenge in Port Moresby.

Minister for Sports Justin Tkatchenko revealed this today in Parliament when responding to WNB Governor Sasindran Muthuvel on the preparedness of the event.

TKatchenko said the country is ready to host the 16 international teams during the event.

He added that Venezuela and USA will be arriving in the country today and the others will follow soon.

“All the facilities are game ready and will be handed over to the FIFA organizing committee to run the competition at the end of this week.”

Tkatchenko further added that all the opening and closing ceremony tickets have been all sold out since the tickets were on sale.

He said the coverage will be televised across the world with 650 million people expected to watch the games for the next four weeks.

He thanked the Minister for Tourism Tobias Kulang who is working closely with the FIFA committee to put the country on the world map through sports.

“This is the first time to have tourism people working along with the Sports people to promote our country.”

The FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup will start on November 13 to December 3.

The matches will be held at four venues, the Sir John Guise Stadium, the National Football Stadium, PNG Football Stadium and Bava Park with ticket prices ranging from as low as K2 to K50. The tickets went on sale yesterday in Port Moresby.

The countries participating in the World Cup includes: Ghana, Nigeria, Japan, Korea DPR, Korea Republic, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Canada, Mexico, USA, New Zealand, Brazil, Venezuela and Papua New Guinea.
