PNG’s Fiji office still to account for nationals

The PNG High Commission Office in Suva Fiji today tried its best to locate PNG residents in Suva, Nadi and other parts of the country.

The death toll from Cyclone Winston, which hit  Fiji over the weekend has risen to at least 20, officials say.

Authorities are assessing damage done and already relief supports from other Pacific island countries have started.

PNG’s High Commission led by Acting High Commissioner Yu Minimbi has yet to send a report back to PNG.

They say they are yet to complete checking on Papua New Guineans registered with the Commission.

Meanwhile, Department of Foreign Affairs says it is awaiting direction from Prime Minister Peter O’Neill on funding and assistance for Fiji.

Over 3000 Papua New Guineans work and live in Fiji.
