PM shocked at Madang housing stalemate

Parliament was told this morning of how two state institutions threatened each other shocking Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.

Usino Bundi MP Anton Yagama asked when the title of the Madang Provincial Governor’s official residence will be give after three years of its purchase.

He said in 2013, the National Housing Corporation (NHC) threatened to reclaim and sell the governors official residence if payment was not made.

Yagama said payment of K1.9 million was made but to date no title had being given by NHC.

Prime Minister O’Neill responded on behalf of the Housing Minister Paul Isikiel who was absent at this morning’s session.

“National Housing Corporation had become a concern for many years, we have thought it would improve but it is getting worst from the reports we are getting.

“I am very surprised that an agency of government is asking another agency of government to pay for the official residence of the governor,” O’Neill responded.

He gave assurance to look into the matter personally.
