Pini misses out on 100m butterfly finals

Papua New Guinea’s super fish Ryan Pini missed out on qualifying for the 100m butterfly finals at the Rio Olympics.

It was a tough night in the pool for Pini, who finished outside the top 16 to qualify.

Pini took the pool at 3am (PNG Time) today, clocking in at 53.24 sec in heat two of the Men’s 100m butterfly event behind Canadian swimmer Condorelli Santo, who qualified at 51.99 sec.

Pini thanked everyone for the support via his official Facebook page.

“Thank you everyone for the support, unfortunately it didn't go as planned. All that build up and energy into the one race.

“Thank you to our Oceania supporters cheering us on and to those that got up at 3am to watch back home on TV.

“Now I can take time to enjoy and cheer on our Pacific athletes on their journey,” he said.

Pini is now ranked 30 in the world in the Men’s 100m butterfly with his current time of 53.24 sec.
