Pidik’s double puts Gurias into top four

A man-of-the-match performance by winger Elipas Pidik with two tries sealed a 14-12 win for the Agmark Rabaul Gurias over the SNS Port Moresby Vipers in this afternoon's round 16 clash at the National Football Stadium.

The Vipers dominated possession in the opening minutes of the game making the Gurias defend under pressure.

They were the first to score in the 19th minute after five- eighth Peter Palus showed his class to throw a dummy and slice through the Gurias defence and run away to score.

The home side continued to build on the pressure and were in again just before the 30 minute mark when Supa George pounced on a grubber.

Quintan Ragi added the extras to put his side 12 points in front.

The Gurias were able to weather the storm and find their game hitting back three minutes out from halftime through a perfectly placed grubber that found the hands of hooker Stanley Olo who leaped up to grab the ball and score under the posts.

Elipas Pidik took the kick and converted to make it 12-6 going into the break.

The Gurias came out stronger side in the second half and turned this into points through Olo who worked his magic to send Pidik over twice.

Pidik scored his first in the 58th minute after Olo darted past some tired defenders to pass on to a flying Pidik to run in to score.

The second came just minutes later from a scrum that saw Olo attack the same right wing that put Pidik into space to score the match winner.

From here, the Gurias defended to the end to win the match and secure fourth spot for the Digicel Cup finals.
