Pepes team named for Nations Cup

The PNG Pepes team has been named for next month’s Nations Cup Series in Singapore.

Netball PNG’s High Performance Coordinator, Mona-Lisa Leka, said the core of the team has been retained with the inclusion of U21 players; Serena Ovia and Jeperth Tulapi.

The team also includes players making a return to the national side in Marie Ottio and Rayleen Andrew.

Tiata Baldwin withdrew from the team due to a knee injury, said the coordinator.

This is the beginning of the Pepes’ preparations for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The final team is:

Lua Rikis, Marie Ottio, Rayleen Andrew, Jeperth Tulapi (shooters), Kilala Owen, Serena Ovia, Tau Galewa, Nancy Kapi (defenders), Jacky Lahari, Neritha Adula, Winnie Mavara and Shanna Dringo (midcourt).

The non-travelling reserves are: Edna Pala, Karolyn Kanapoti and Ware Nope.

The Nation’s Cup will run from September 4-10. The countries that will take part are; Africa - Botswana (19) and Zambia (16), America - Canada (18), Asia - Singapore (17), Europe - Ireland (25), Oceania - Papua New Guinea (15).
