People’s attitude a reflection of moral values, says Ogio

There is a tremendous decline in moral values that is permeating the fabrics of society and influencing the attitudes and behaviour of people.

“Practices that were once considered unlawful are now widely accepted to a point where one cannot be able to distinguish between right and wrong,” says Governor-General Sir Michael Ogio.

He was speaking during the observation of the National Repentance Day this morning at the Parliament.

Sir Michael said this concerns especially the future generation, the children, and it is now incumbent on concerned citizens, parents and leaders to set the standard to do right.

“By letting Christian principles guide us, we will act responsibly and set in motion appropriate policies and legislative interventions, for our children will grow up with principles to live for.

Sir Michael went on to say that “setting a clear, national ideological foundation will not only ensure future growth and development for our nation, but also steer us clear of moral confusion”.

Meanwhile, Parliament Speaker Theo Zurenuoc called on the people of the nation to use the National Prayer and Repentance Day as an opportunity to forgive one another and work forward.

He said today is a day to see the special work of faith at work.
