Parents flock to DWU to witness missioning of students

More than 300 parents and guardians of final year students of Divine Word University are now travelling to the Madang campus to witness the 7th Missioning Ceremony.

The ceremony is likely to see more than 350 plus students in the fulltime programs commissioned from the four faculties – Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), Faculty of Business and Informatics (FBI), Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. 

This year’s missioning ceremony is a milestone for the university as 9 Masters sStudents in disciplines including Masters in Research Methodology under FASS, FBI and Education plus Masters in Education Leadership will for the first time be participants in the annual event.

United States of America’s Ambassador to Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, His Excellency Ambassador Walter North is expected to give the keynote address while Ms. Suzanne Edgecombe, Counsellor Development Cooperation from the Australian High Commission is also giving a speech.

The Missioning ceremony will start with a Holy Eucharist at the SVD Memorial Auditorium at 8.30 am followed by the Missioning in which final year students will be given DWU pendants, then lunch at the Fr. Van der Geest student dining hall followed by a bus tour around Madang’s famous sites hosted by the uUniversity. Parents will be farewelled  through a dinner hosted by the uUniversity on Friday evening.

All parents are expected to be travelling back to their destinations by Saturday, 24th of October 2015.

The Missioning Ceremony is an annual event initiated by Divine Word University in  2011 as an occasion to mark the completion of studies by final year students and to thank benefactors for their support in ensuring students complete studies.
