Opposition commends students for standing firm in protest

The Opposition has commended students of the universities for thinking ahead and taking up the challenge to put a stop to the most corrupt and destructive Prime Minister PNG has ever seen.

Opposition Leader Sam Basil said the students have basically stood up as future leaders of this country as they see what is wrong with this country.

Basil reminded the students that it is their freedom of rights to protest.

He confirmed that no Opposition MP is involved in supporting the students in funding the protests and that this is their free will to protest.

Opposition MP and Member for Vanimo Green Belden Namah challenged the institutions of State and the people of PNG to rise up and save our country from total collapse and commended the students for standing up to protest.

Namah said that their future is being compromised and their happiness, their safety, their employment and opportunities for enterprise and innovation is being compromised.

“It is their future that is under extreme threat here and they’re right to demand a future of hope and promise and not a future of doom and gloom,” Namah said.

Namah said that he will support the students and civil society groups and stand with them.

“I am happy to participate in whatever reasonable cause of action the people of PNG through these groups take,” Namah said.

Basil added that if anything happens to the students under the police watch following police presence on the University of PNG Campus, they’ll hold Peter O’Neill and Gari Baki personally responsible.
