Olympic Committee aims to inspire and unite

The PNG Olympic Committee (PNGOC) yesterday held a media information session with the aim for sports reporters and editors to fully understand the purpose and role of the PNGOC and its plans going forward.

The session was held at the Lamana Hotel and was attended by media houses including PNG Loop, Goldring Media, the National Broadcasting Service, PNGFM, Post-Courier and EMTV.

PNGOC Manager Sports Development, Andrew Lepani explained that the PNGOC’s new vision from 2016-2020 is to inspire and unite Papua New Guineans through sporting excellence and success.

“Our aim before 2015 was to finish on top in the Pacific Games and we did that.

“Going forward, we are driven to be the best performing Pacific National Olympic Committee and achieve Team PNG success by partnering with the government, sponsors and the Olympic Movement.

“ Ahead of us we have the Rio Olympics this year, the 2017 Pacific Mini Games, the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the 2019 Pacific Games and the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games,” said Lepani.

Also provided to the media was the PNGOC’s calendar of activities for this year with the big event being Team PNG’s preparations for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
