October Central court circuit ends

The October National Court Central Circuit for criminal cases ended today at the Bomana National Court.

Criminal Judge, Justice Panuel Mogish said this month’s Central Court circuit saw nine accuseds who were on bench warrants turn themselves in after being on the run for more than 20 years.

Most of these accused who turned themselves in were from the Bereina area of Central Province.

Central Province is currently leading in the execution of bench warrants, some dating back to 30 years ago.

He attributed the success in Central Province to the utilisation of existing local authority through the Paramount chief system.

He also commended the locals in the Mekeo area for turning those wanted in.

This month saw 18 cases concluded in the Central Province and the arm of the judiciary was even seen up in the mountains of Goilala when Justice Mogish and his team visited the Tapini station last weekend.

During the visit last week, the Tapini National Court sat for the first time.

A Court User Forum followed after where locals were told of what happens after an accused has been caught by police and the process they go through in court.

“I think we’ve done justice to the people of Tapini. Our next trip is to Magarida in Central,” Justice Mogish said today.

He thanked lawyers from the office of the Public Prosecutor and the Public Solicitor for the successful month.
