Obscene FB talk against MP has man charged

A man from Siar village, Madang Province appeared at the Waigani Committal Court this morning for allegedly using obscene language against Madang MP Nixon Duban on his Facebook account.

Brendan Kadeu appeared without legal representation for the first time since his arrest before Magistrate Cosmas Bidar where charges against him were read in court.

The court was told that Kadeu on Jan 23 this year, at Waigani,  used the social media to make comments against Madang Open MP, Duban.

The alleged obscene comment posted by Kadeu was read in court by Magistrate Bidar from the brief facts provided by police in court.

It is alleged he wrote a comment asking where Duban was and to have him voted out come 2017 with the use of obscene language in between his post.

He was charged with causing annoyance and inconvenience to another person under  section 266 of the new Information and Communication Technology or NICTA Act.

Bidar said for such charges, officers from NICTA will have to arrange for prosecution of the cases unless there is a consent in place by the Office of the Public Prosecutor for Police prosecutors to handle the cases.

He also said charges under the new NICTA act are on the rise as well.

Kadeu remains on a police bail of K300 and is expected back in court next month.
