O’Neill calls on Opposition to provide evidence

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has again called on the Opposition leader to stop debating on emotional topics but concrete topics that will enhance the development of the nation.

When responding to Don Polye’s questions today on the PNG LNG project revenues, O’Neill said he has no business or stolen any money for his own personnel interest.

He called on Polye to give evidence and not come up with allegations to destroy the reputation of the government.

Sopos yu gat wanpla evidens, yu tromoi toktok lo wei igat mining lo em. Noken tromoi toktok nating nating lo kirapim bel blo ol pipol blo yumi. (If you have any evidence, prove it. Do not debate on issues that will stir up our people’s feelings.)

Yu no wanpla liklik mangi, yu lida blo kantri na tromoi toktok lo mak blo em,”says O’Neill in Tok Pisin. (You are not a child. You are a leader of this nation and must speak accordingly.)

O’Neill added that debates meant to stir people’s emotions are unbecoming of a leader.

Polye was asking about the K4.2 billion revenue from the sale of the LNG project last year and this year.

However, O’Neill said the State only has a 19.2 percent stake in the LNG project while the biggest slice goes to the development partners.

He said the state has many debts around the world which the government had to repay and a little goes to the consolidated revenue account, which is managed by the Treasury.

This did not go down well with Polye, who told O’Neill that he will provide evidence in tomorrow’s session of parliament.
