North Fly people continue to suffer from drought

The people of North Fly in Western Province continue to suffer from the lack of clean water and food.

North Fly Disaster Coordinator Greg Isau says a report of those affected in six LLGs was sent to Waigani five months ago and to date no relief assistance had reached the people.

Situation reports compiled from the district state that a total of nine hotspots have been severely affected.

Isau says the Olsobip LLG is now in category 4 with water sources drying up.

“There are unconfirmed reports that the people of Mougulu in Nomad have resorted to eating clay,” he says.

Health authorities in Kiunga are concerned there might be a rise in health issues relating to the lack of water and proper food supply.

Meantime the, newly sworn in North Fly District Development Authority has approved  K2 million disaster relief assistance for the district .
