Nisira: Religious extremism a timebomb in Bougainville

RELIGION has now been judged differently on Bougainville and it has gone right into the extreme and will end up uncontrollable.

ABG Vice President Patrick Nisira highlighted the issue during the opening of the referendum office in Kubu Buka last year, in the presence of this reporter.

It has only come into light this year as Bougainville has been put back into ancient and biblical history linking to the days of King Solomon. Different groups have now been calling themselves names that link to the ancient days of the island.

Recalling the words of the second most powerful man on Bougainville the Vice President,  said if this issue continues it will confuse the people.

“We’re calling ourselves the land of Ophir and the lost island of King Solomon we all respect ancient history but it has been overdone, people are taking it personally.”  Vice President Nisira said.

Bougainville’s worst fear is that global terrorism is linked to religious extremism, and the current situation down in Tonu Siwai, where Noah Musingku of U vistract is calling himself a king is a result of religious extremism.

“We’re causing ourselves to go into factions again and a religious faction is actually based on religious beliefs and if the belief says fight??”  “Then what do we do??” “We go according to the belief and that is our worst fear.” Nisira said.
