NICTA to host PRFP-9 forum in Port Moresby

The National Information and Communication Technology Authority (NICTA) of Papua New Guinea will be hosting the PRFP-9 at the Laguna Hotel in Port Moresby from June 28 to June 30.

The 9th Policy and Regulation Forum for Pacific (PRFP-9) will be supported by the Extra Budgetary Contributions from Australia and Japan.

More than 100 delegates have confirmed to attend the three-day forum.

Communication and Information Technology Minister Jimmy Miringtoro will open the forum.

The aim of PRFP-9 is to bring together telecommunications and ICT policy makers and regulators from the Pacific Region to discuss issues faced by them.

The topicsĀ  for discussion for this 9th forum include policy and regulatory trends in the Pacific; international connectivity for the Pacific Islands; reducing mobile roaming charges in the Pacific; policy and regulation for Over The Top (OTT) services; cyber security and internet policy issues; emergency communications and ICT for disaster risk reduction; regional cooperation and shared infrastructure in the Pacific; and business dialogue on the competitiveness of the telecommunications market in the Pacific.

This is the first time since 1998 for PNG to host such an important telecomm and ICT forum.

NICTA Chief executive officer Charles Punaha will chair the forum.
