NFS to host POMRFL grand final for first time

The National Football Stadium (NFS), formally known as Port Moresby Rugby League (PRL) Oval will for the first time host the grand final matches for the SP Port Moresby Rugby Football League.

The women’s grand final will be played as curtain raiser to the Prime Minister’s XIII between Australia and PNG on Saturday, Sept 24 and the men’s grand finals will be played on Sunday, Sept 25.

The last time a grand final for POMRFL was played at PRL Oval was back in 2013 before the venue was transformed into the new stadium.

The K170 million world class stadium was opened in February, 2016 and sits about 10,000 people.

It has so far hosted matches for the Queensland Intrust Super Cup and the Digicel Cup competition.

Chairman of the POMRFL and PNGNRL judiciary David Silovo, who has also been MC at the venue during both the Intrust Cup and the Digicel Cup, is looking forward to another great weekend of rugby league.

Silovo said the venue is built to world class standard and imposes strict rules for players, officials and spectators.

“We will not tolerate betelnut and alcohol around the premises.

“The same strict rules apply to both players and spectators as applied during the Intrust Cup and Digicel Cup matches,” he said.

In the women’s match, Paga Panthers will take on defending champions Royals, the U20 division,  Brothers play Souths and the A Grade division, Hohola Flies battle it out with Paga Panthers.

Tickets for the men’s grand final matches are selling at K5 outer stand and K10 main grandstand.
