NCDC urged to support textile markets

The National Capital District Commission has been asked to assist women involved n the garment and textile industry by providing them facilities to sell their products.

Richard Yakam,  First Assistant Secretary Trade Division of the Department Of Trade, Commerce and Industry said this in the presence of NCDC officials during the 27th Garment and Textile Graduation.

Yakam said women involved in textile or meri blouse making were part of the informal sector however more forced to sell on the streets.

He said NCD Governor, Powes Parkop, has done well so far to provide markets for fresh produce and fish and similar facilities was needed for women in the garment or textile sector.

“There is a need to put up similar facilities for the people who are involved in the craft.

“The informal sector is not smoke and buai, it’s a wide range of activities that people are involved in which needs to be understood and promoted,” said Yakam.
