MLR tour a highlight of 2015

Danish band Michael Learns to Rock (MLTR) was the highlight on the entertainment front for 2015 apart from other international artists who came to perform in PNG.

MLTR visited Port Moresby twice this year and performed at Lamana Gold Club on Jan 17 and returned to perform at the 40th Independence celebrations on Sept 16 at the Sir John Guise Stadium.

This was the first ever biggest outdoor concert experienced by city residents since O’Yaba performed at the Sir John Guise Stadium in 1997.

2015 was more of a quiet year for international artists that toured PNG compared to 2014 where we had huge acts including Maxi Priest, Sean Paul, UB40, Inner Circle, Shaggy, Sean Kingston, Mya, Kevin Little and Mario.

This year, we had artists including African singer Mampi, Fijian Australian R&B and pop singer Paulini, American singer Brandon Beal, English artist Craig David and Jamaican reggae artist Conkarah.

Early in the year, Ciara fans were disappointed when she cancelled her show on Feb 21 at the Gold Club after she was stranded in Australia due to bad weather caused by cyclone Marcia in Queensland.

O’shen and J Boog had the crowd screaming for more when they performed in front of more than 15,000 people including athletes and officials at the closing ceremony of the 2015 Pacific Games on July 18 at the Sir John Guise Stadium.

A month later, Zambian music sensation Afunika toured the country performing in Kimbe, Lae, Kokopo, Arawa, Buka and Moresby.

The entertainment year ended on a high note with the world's top reggae gospel band Christafari that also performed in Lae, Rabaul and Moresby in November.

Due to popular demand, 2016 will kick-off with UB40 returning to Moresby to perform at the Gold Club, Lamana Hotel on Friday Jan 22 and at the Sir John Guise Stadium on Saturday Jan 23.

2016 is expected to be another big year in entertainment for PNG.
