Miss PNG Pageant visit Buk Bilong Pikinini library

The six contestants for the Miss PNG pageant visited Buk Bilong Pikinini library at the University of Papua New Guinea campus today.

As a charity organisation, the visitation is a show of support for non-government organisations.

The young women spent the morning interacting with the children, involving in activities and learning about the work of the library in communities.

Contestant Rose Pitoi, Miss ITI, a former teacher, also gave positive feedback for the community library.

“I used to teach phoenix and when students of BbP came in, they were already fluent readers, which made my job even easier and I want to commend them personally” she told Loop PNG.

The contestants also presented the students with gift packs, courtesy of Paradise Food, who is also a contestant sponsor, Lois Ilave under its Queen Emma Chocolate brand.

The contestants were accompanied by the reigning Miss Pacific Islands and Miss PNG, Abigail Havora and the Prime Minister’s wife Ms Linda Babao, who is the MPIP PNG patron and BbP ambassador.

“We’re here at Buk Bilong Pikinini because we are a non-government organisation and also a charitable organisation, we love to support charities like this, and also because we are supporting our patron Ms Babao O’Neill who is the ambassador of BbP in PNG,” said the deputy chairperson, MPIP PNG, Molly O’Rourke.

O’Rourke said this is the second official outing for the young women.

We had a first official visit for the girls to donate blood at the blood bank yesterday, and we have been doing that consistently for the last six years. It’s good to see that the contestants understand the importance of donating blood. We also have motivational speakers during breakfast during 7 and 8 in the morning,” she said.

The pageant will have a pre-judging of the topic presentations in an open forum on Thursday, 6pm at the Crowne Plaza hotel, followed by the crowning ball on  Saturday October 22.
