Mendi’s Awasa Cup grand final moved

The grand final for the Awasa Cup tournament which was supposed to have been played today in Mendi has been moved to next weekend.

This is because the round robin games are still been played.

The tournament, aimed at scouting local talents to represent the Mendi Muruks in 2016 Digicel Cup season, kicked off on Friday at the main town oval with the grand final expected to be played today.

Organisers on the ground confirmed that with the high number of 18 teams, it has taken much longer than expected to complete the round robin matches.

Teams came from districts throughout the province including Ialibu, Pangia, Erave, Kutubu, Poroma, Nipa, Mendi and Imbongu.

Results from late yesterday saw TNT Jets defeat Hela 4-2, Kenya Amesi thrashed Nipa Snipers 12-0, Kambiri Bulldogs beat Upper Mendi 8-2, Mendi One defeated Ialibu 12-10, Imbongu  drew with Mendi Two 6-6 and Kagua beat Karinz 12-4.

This morning game results, following its big win yesterday,  the David Loko captained side Amesi drew with Poroma 6-6 and Upper Mendi made a comeback after its loss yesterday to defeat Ialibu 10-4.
