Marus: Equal opportunity must be given to women

Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Francis Marus, has called for equal opportunities to be given to women.

Marus says as Papua New Guinea moves forward into the future, equal opportunities must be given to everyone, including women, to participate in the growth and development of PNG.

When launching the inaugural PNG Women in Science and Industry Symposium, Marus said advancing the contribution of women and girls in science and technology is vital.

“Women are certainly making enormous advances in all sectors of society, including the public and private sector workforce.

“In particular, the contribution of PNG women in the informal economic sector is quite significant,” Marus said.

He encouraged the PNG Science and Technology Secretariat and professional women organisations to work and establish the status of women in science, technology and innovation.

The PNG Women in Science and Industry Symposium, underway today, is hosted by the PNG Science and Technology Secretariat (PNGSTS) at the PNG National Research Institute in Port Moresby.
