Manus unveils its “Bali of the Pacific

The Western Island of Manus has been identifed as the potential tourism destination for both local and overseas tourists.

Manus Governor Charlie Benjimen said K200,000 has been allocated to market the destination to investors.

The funding will be for a Corporate TV documentary on the island and travel magazine to be circulate to travel agents.

Benjamin was speaking during the NBC Dabai Talkback Show at Lorengau Harbour side Hotel on the various provincial revenue sources that his government is embarking on.

The Niningo Group has 42 atolls.

Most of these islands are uninhabited and have some of the most spectacular white sandy beaches and pristine waters.

The islands were old German Coconut Plantations in the early part of the last century.

Bangalow type accommodation will be built with tourists encouraged to use village accommodation to boost the local economy.

Game fishing and other water sports will be available.

Most Manusians have not visited this beautiful part of the province due to its isolation and long travelling distance by sea as there are no air services.

The Government station on Mal Island has an Airstrip that can take in large aircraft like Dash 8 and twin Otters which.

With a population of less than 2000 people their isolation from the rest of the world may become a thing of the past.
