Manus people urged to take precautions following strong winds

People living along the coast of the west-southwest of Manus Province are urged to take precaution when going out to sea due to strong winds.

A renewal strong wind warning for coastal areas has been issued by the PNG National Weather Service this afternoon.

The strong wind warning is ongoing for a month now as the southeast trade winds prevail over the country.

Strong winds will also continue to affect all coastal waters of Southern PNG through Torres Strait and Daru to Kiwai Island to Kerema to Yule Island and Hood Point.

People along the coast of Milne Bay and Finschaffen and Siassi Island in Morobe are urged to also take precaution.

Strong southeast winds of 20/34 knots are expected to continue for the next 24 hours causing rough seas and high wind waves.

Forecaster Charlie Vulum urges all small crafts and boats to take necessary precautions before going out to sea.

Coastal villagers are also warned to avoid traveling long distances by boat or dinghy and also going out fishing during this time of strong winds.
