Manus to get new K15m police complex

Construction of a new Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) complex for Manus Police commenced this week and is now underway.

Costing up to K15 million, in partnership with the Australian Government, the RPNGC Provincial Police Headquarters and Lorengau Police Station’s aim is to increase safe access to law and justice services and support police in making communities safer.

Speaking on behalf of Manus Governor Charlie Benjamin was Deputy Governor John Popot, who says this new police station will boost police morale. It will also instill respect and appreciation from the public for police work within Lorengau.

“It will support delivery of police service, and maintain law and order within our community, supporting Manus to grow in terms of business and development,” Popot says.

Commissioner for Police Gari Baki encouraged all who saw the new facility to take pride in their important role of protecting and serving the Manus community.

Australian High Commission Minister, Counsellor Catherine Fitch, says PNG and Australian Government, together with the RPNGC, the Manus Provincial Administration, the Law and Justice Sector as well as the Manus community, have worked together on this project since its inception.

“The new provincial police headquarters and Lorengau Police Station will serve Manus communities for many years to come,” says Fitch.
