Mangos given until Friday to show up in court

Suspended Executive Director of PNG Power Limited John Mangos has been given until Friday this week to comply with his bail obligation by appearing at the Committal Court for mention.

His name was called at the Committal Court on Tuesday and again yesterday (Wednesday) however he was not present.  

Police prosecution moved for a warrant of arrest to be issued for the defendant however Magistrate John Kaumi stood his case over to Friday again to give him time to appear.

Mangos was arrested and charged on March 15 for conspiring to defraud PNG Power, dishonestly applying the property of PNG Power and Abuse of Office.

He was charged on allegations that between Aug 9 and Sept 20 last year in Port Moresby, Mangos, 49, of Brisbane, Australia dishonestly applied to the use of another person, namely, Theo Casimiro monies in the sum of K62,475.52 property belonging to PNG Power.

He was charged under section 383(1)(a) of the PNG Criminal Code act.

It is also alleged that between the same period, Mangos Conspired with Theo Casimiro to defraud PPL the sum of K K62, 475.52. 

He was charged under section 407(1)(b) of the Criminal Code act of PNG.

The third allegation against Mangos is that while he was employed in the Public Service as the Executive Director of PPL, he abused the authority of his office by directing the General Managers of Human Resources and Payroll Services to pay Theo Casimiro K62, 475.52.

For the charge of Abuse of office, Mangos was charged under section 92(1) of the Criminal Code.

All the monies paid were allegedly salary advance payments in three separate payments.

 It is alleged the payments were directed on the understanding that the amount would be fully recouped when Casimiro officially resumed duty after work permit and employment contract sorted out thereafter.

He was released on bail and has been given till Friday to appear at the Waigani Committal Court with his lawyer.
