Maintenance work resumes at Boroko cell

Initial ground work on renovations at the Boroko cells is going well after a slight delay in paying the contractors.

The payment has now been settled and contractors are resuming refurbishment works on the plumbing and the ceiling fixtures to ensure better ventilation in the holding rooms and cells.

The cells have been stripped of and washed out while all pipes into the facility have been cleared out with painters and plumbers carrying out maintenance work on the facility.

The Boroko cells had gone under major renovations in the past couple of months and all detainees have been transferred to Waigani and Badili police stations.

So far, the walls have been repainted with news bars and gates put in place on the doors and windows, broken brick walls have been replaced with new ones to secure the holding cells and the water leakage problems have been fixed.
