Madang into women’s softball grand final

10 runs at the top of the fifth inning gave Madang an easy 15-4 win over Buluminski in the women’s semi-final of the 2015 national softball championships this morning.

Good batting allowed Madang to open the scoring in the third inning with three runs to take the lead.

Buluminski hit back at their next turn of bat,  scoring after Wendy Katusele was walked with a full base situation. A hit by pitch ball gave Buluminski their second run.

Madang finally made the play to end the innings with the score at 3-2.

A hit by Madang’s Pricilla Mocke brought home another runner. In the next play, Mocke scored herself from a loose ball.

Madang’s pitcher combination of Tenisa Kuveu and Josephine Mocke ensured no more runs at Buluminski’s next turn at bat.

The fifth inning is where Madang let loose with their power batting led by Priscilla and Carol Apelis to pile on ten runs.

Two late runs to Buluminski restored some pride before the mercy rule was applied after the fifth inning.

Meanwhile, in the other women’s semi-final, Port Moresby Gold continued their undefeated run at the championships, thumping Port Moresby Black 14-2. The game was called off at the top of the fourth inning after the mercy rule was applied.

Madang will play Port Moresby Gold in the women’s grand final later at 1pm this afternoon.
