Local Lanco presents training gears to Madang volleyball squad

A LOCAL landowner company in Madang, Wass Matau Limited presented new balls and training uniforms to the Madang volleyball squad.

The sports gear was presented to the squad  today to assist in their preparation for the 7th PNG Games in Kimbe.

General Manager of Wass Matau Limited, Danny Gabong handed over the items to the team at the famous Laiwaden oval during the team’s training session.

Gabong explained to the players that it is not the first time Wass Matau had provided such assistance to sporting groups. It previously presented K35,000 to Team Madang to attend a tournament in Rabaul and had also assisted organized community sporting events in Rai Coast district of Madang.

Wass Matau Limited is involved in civil engineering and road construction work. It is a Lanco which represents the Coastal Pipeline area in the Ramu Nickel Project in Madang.

He added that the company is glad to provide such a small assistance to the Madang volleyball because such assistance is within the company’s social and corporate obligation. Wass Matau had previously assisted churches, youths and women groups.

Gabong said the training gears and balls is one way to boost the morale of players and for them to play as a team and increase their chances of winning.

“You will make us proud if you win and bring back medals to Madang,” Gabong said.

Madang provincial volleyball director, Bebs Merire, in receiving the training gears thanked Gabong and Wass Matau Group of Companies.

Merire said the help was the first of its kind they had received and the players are so thankful.

He said the Madang squad is made up of a total of 36 members with the management and will be participating in indoor and beach volleyball during the 7th PNG Games in Kimbe.

Merire said the players in the squad come from all six districts in Madang Province.
