Lae Tigers defeat Moresby Vipers 16-14

Lae Snax Tigers continued their winning ways today at the Murray Barracks oval in front of a huge Port Moresby crowd.

They defeated home team Stop and Shop Port Moresby Vipers during a close encounter 16-14 thanks to kicker Charlie Simon.

Both teams scored three tries but Tigers had the upper hand converting two tries while Vipers only converted one.

The visiting team was the first to score through right wing Robert Vuni 10 minutes into the game followed by a successful conversion by Charlie Simon 6-0.

Boosted with two SP Hunters players Sebastian Pandia and Adam Korave, Vipers fought back to score five minutes later through powerhouse Pandia. An unsuccessful conversion had Vipers trailing 6-4.

23 minutes into the game Tigers scored their second try through forward Nao Boge who slipped past the strong defence to score a try up the middle taking the score to 12-4 after a successful kick by Simon.

Vipers came around to score their second try nine minutes to half time through Richard Kambo followed by a successful conversion by Sebulon Ragi and Vipers were trailing 12-10 at half time.

Both teams suffered from careless ball handling in most of the second half with a lot of dropped balls during tackles which put pressure on their game.

Tigers scored their third try through inside centre Pasu Awani 13 minutes into the second half taking the score to 16-10 after an unsuccessful kick.

Vipers fought back scoring their third try through Bredan Gotuno 16-14. The home side had the chance to level the score but another unsuccessful conversion had them trailing by two points at full time.

In other matches today, up at the National Sports Institute (NSI) in Goroka, home team Lahanis defeated Agmark Rabaul Gurias 30-28.

In Mendi Hela Wigmen defeated Simbu Lions 34-14. Lions suffered their first loss while in Wabag, Enga Mioks lost to Mendi Muruks 26-24 and newcomers Waghi Tumbe played well to beat Mt. Hagen Eagles 11-10 in Minj.
