Kua steps away from the ‘crowded bench’ to join Opposition

“The government is building up pressure in the system, community and country as a whole. And when you do that for long enough, it explodes.” - Kerenga Kua.

Vibrant former Attorney General and Sinasina Yongomugl MP Kerenga Kua has stepped out from the crowded government back benches and joined the Opposition bench this afternoon.

In welcoming the leader of National Party, Opposition Leader Don Polye thanked him for making such a move.

“The move by Kua was for his people and not for his personnel gain. We welcome him to the Opposition as he brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team,” Polye said.

He said given the current situation the country is going through, Kua represents  PNG whose future we wish to build.

He added that Prime Minister Peter O’Neill’s reasons for sacking him (Kua) as Attorney-General represents the values which threatens PNG’s future.

Meanwhile, Kua described O’Neill moving towards autocratic dictatorship, which threatens the national survival.

“Respect for the rule of law and good governance from the highest political office in the land is disappearing,” he said.

He said the current situation in PNG is a pressure cooker reaching boiling point with the government holding down the lid.

“The government is building up pressure in the system, community and country as a whole. And when you do that for long enough, it explodes,” says Kua.

“We should not put the lid on debate. Allow debate to take place on all fronts,” he said.
